Getting away from it all.

One of the questions we're often asked is, "Where do you go on holiday when you already live in Spain?"

It's a fair question. With sunshine, mountains, beaches and great food right on our doorstep in Jesús Pobre, you might think we'd never want to leave.

But every now and then the suitcase comes out, the passports are dusted off and we head off in search of somewhere different.

Sometimes it's a return to places that hold special memories, like Berlin, where I was once stationed during the Cold War. Sometimes it's somewhere completely new, such as Sicily, where history and family holidays collide. Other times it's a trip back to Britain, seeing familiar places through the eyes of someone who's now lived abroad for years. And there are still plenty of destinations waiting to be explored.

This section of Signals, Sangria and Soul is a collection of those journeys. Some are nostalgic, some are humorous, some are historical, but all are written from the perspective of an ex-pat who still loves discovering what lies beyond the Costa Blanca.
